A solution to my clutter of plastic shopping bags

I didn’t even realize that I wanted this plastic grocery bag holder until I happened to be surfing around the web (has that happened to you?).

This slim holder has given me the satisfaction of de-cluttering, and it is good looking, too, I mounted mine on the wall behind my back entry-way door.

I was able to instantly free up a shelf that had been cluttered with bags. The slim design fits behind my back door in space that would otherwise not be used.

I used the suggestion of a commenter on Amazon to roll the bags like a sock before stuffing them into the top of the holder. That way, it’s easy, peasy to grab an individual bag from the front slot on the way out to the garden, or the garbage, or whatever.

The handsome sleek design is an extra bonus to feeling good about recycling and organizing in style.

  1. @ S Emerson – I thought the ‘rolling them up like a sock’ would appeal to my socking knitting friends. That’s the only vague reference I have in this article to keep it related to knitting in any way, lol.

  2. What a fantastic organizer!! I just recently switched the re-usable grocery bags as well, so that cuts down on the plastic some. I like to keep a couple around under my kitchen sink, the rest get taken to recycling.

  3. My Mom has 2 of those! Not as sleek and fancy as the one you got.

We fold the bags up instead of rolling them up like a sock.

  4. Absolutely. That’s great. Actually I have a knitted market bag pattern that can eliminate the plastic as well. And those are what I use. (it is a pattern that I is published in my HeartStrings product line). But I can’t seem to eliminate the plastic bags that invariably come in from other household members. So this is just an efficient way I’ve found to use those bags at least one more time for some use. Thanks for your comments!

  5. I started buying canvass shopping bags at thrift stores and retail stores several years ago. So far, I haven’t worn one out, and we have reduced the number of plastic bags coming into our home down to two or three bags a month (or less). We also compost/reduce/reuse/recycle, so even our garbage is minimal. :-))

  6. Well, do share. I have heard to tissue boxes (but they didn’t hold up for me) and the like). I’d love to hear (as I am sure others would) about some other ways, even if not as ‘sleek’. Thanks for sharing!
