Celebrating the Vernal Equinox

March 20th marks the Vernal Equinox in 2011. In case you are wondering (or might have forgotten), the Vernal Equinox is one of two times in the year when night and day are (nearly as possible) the same. More specifically, the time at which the Vernal Equinox is UTC 23:21 today (hope I have that right, lol).

In any case, today marks the beginning of Spring. So happy Springtime to everyone, my friends.

Spring Cleaning Offer. I have several sample sets of Unicorn Fibre Wash and Fibre Rinse to give out. Request yours with any Close-out KitsYarn Paks or wholesale patterns order from HeartStrings. Offer is good until I run out of samples.

New Online Chat Support at HeartStringsFiberArts.com

If you’ve been at the HeartStringsFiberArts.com website recently, you may have noticed a small change. I am available for online chat now and then throughout the week. If you see the “Live Help Online” button, click to say “hi” and chat a bit if you need help finding anything at the website.

A few people have already stumbled upon this and been surprised that it really is me on the chat! Of course, that is not my picture up there; it’s just one of the generic buttons provided with the service I use. I actually had thought about taking a picture of me with my phone headset, but I figured that would be a little over the top, lol.

There are no pre-set hours for when I will be online, though. We will just see how things go for now. Even if I am not online, you can now conveniently send a message to my dedicated email support address just by clicking the “Live support Offline” button (which is what the above button switches to automatically when I go offline).

Don’t worry, you can still reach me by any of the other ways that you may have been using, including the dedicated toll-free phone support line.

Do remember that I have a life, too, though. I will respond to you as soon as possible if by chance I am unavailable. So be sure to leave an email address or phone number with your message as to where I can reach you.

Happy Mardi Gras! and announcement of contest winner

Krewe of Cork
Krewe of Cork parading in the French Quarter, one of many fun events during Mardi Gras season in New Orleans

Happy Mardi Gras to everyone. Today (Fat Tuesday) is the finale to the giant annual party in New Orleans. Having lived in New Orleans for 40 years, I no longer try to make every event. But this year I did enjoy more days (and nights) than I had in many years. The good weather (other than last Saturday and somewhat today) probably contributed to my enthusiasm for parade-going, people-watching, and generally being in a festive spirit. I did take some photos and videos now and then, and will sort through those later for some possible gems to blog about in the future . But mostly I just partied and enjoyed the moment.

It’s going to be tough to get back to “real work” tomorrow. But today it is a real pleasure to announce the winner of the Mardi Gras Viewer’s Choice Contest over at the HeartStrings FiberArts Facebook fan page. Congratulations to contest winner Dena Rauch with her “Chinese New Year Bunnies go to Mardi Gras”. Dena wrote, “I have wanted to knit up Knitted Bunny for a very long time and this was the perfect excuse”. The fun creativity that Dena showed in matching the theme of the Chinese Year of the Rabbit together with the traditional purple, green and gold colors of Mardi Gras was obviously admired and had a wide lead in the number of “like” votes cast. Aren’t they just too cute?

Thanks to everyone else, too, who participated, whether by entering and/or voting, and commenting. I hope everyone had fun. Let me know what else you’d like to do for future fun events.

p.s. The pattern for Knitted Bunny is available free at the HeartStrings FiberArts website (with donation optional).

p.p.s. If you are just now dropping in and had not yet found the HeartStrings FiberArts Facebook fan page, hop on over there now and “like” to stay in touch. We’d love to have you join us.
